Medigap Plan M

Plan M is Plan D with one twist: it pays 50% of the Part A hospital deductible instead of all of it. Hospital and skilled nursing coinsurance, Part B coinsurance, blood, and hospice cost-sharing are covered in full, foreign travel emergencies at 80% — but each benefit period, half of the $1,736 Part A deductible is yours.

Who Plan M tends to fit

  • People willing to split the hospital deductible with the plan — the design trades that 50% exposure for whatever premium difference your state's quotes actually show.
  • People who rarely expect inpatient stays: if the Part A deductible seldom happens, half of it seldom happens either.
  • People who want skilled nursing and foreign travel coverage without paying for excess-charge protection.

The trade-offs

  • Half the hospital deductible is real money — 50% of $1,736 per benefit period in 2026, and benefit periods can repeat within a year.
  • The annual Part B deductible and any Part B excess charges are still yours.
  • Not every carrier offers every letter — ask your advisor whether Plan M is actually quotable in your state before anchoring on it.
