High-Deductible Plan G

High-Deductible Plan G is regular Plan G with a different deal: a much lower premium, but you pay all Medicare-covered cost-sharing yourself until you've spent $2,950 in a year — then it pays like full Plan G. Same standardized benefits, different risk split.

Who Plan G tends to fit

  • Healthy budgeters who want catastrophic protection: the deductible caps a bad year, and the premium savings are yours in every good year.
  • People comfortable self-funding routine care in exchange for a known worst case.
  • People priced out of full Plan G who still want Medigap's any-doctor freedom rather than a network plan.

The trade-offs

  • The full deductible ($2,950 in 2026) is your exposure — a hospitalization early in the year means paying Medicare's deductibles and coinsurance out of pocket until you reach it.
  • The deductible resets every January and CMS adjusts it annually.
  • Not sold in every state — availability depends on where you live.
