Medigap Plan B
Plan B is Plan A plus exactly one benefit: it pays the Part A hospital deductible — $1,736 per benefit period in 2026 — in full. Everything else matches Plan A, gaps included: no skilled nursing facility coinsurance, no Part B deductible, no excess charges, no foreign travel benefit. And it isn't Medicare Part B — the matching letter is a coincidence.
Who Plan B tends to fit
- People whose main worry is hospital bills: Plan B covers the Part A deductible and all the coinsurance beyond it, with up to 365 extra covered hospital days.
- People stepping up from Plan A for one specific reason — closing the hospital deductible — without paying for benefits they've decided to self-fund.
The trade-offs
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance still isn't covered — the same post-hospital rehab gap Plan A has.
- The annual Part B deductible ($283 in 2026) and any Part B excess charges are yours.
- Most people comparing seriously also quote G or N — the letters that add skilled nursing and travel coverage — because whether the fuller letters are worth their premium difference is arithmetic for your own quotes, not a rule of thumb.
